SWIP® hardfaced plate is a double layer wear plate comprising two completely different metals and/or alloys performing a super fusion along all the inner surfaces of the deposit and substrate layers.

The layers perform different functions: the substrate is responsible for mechanical properties whilst the deposit one obtains high wear resistance property and performs protection function.

SWIP® hardfaced plate comprises a substrate made of regular low-carbon, refractory or stainless steel grades.  The substrate is deposited with the particular wear resistance layer which is performed by a bridge-type machine. We apply arc-welding surfacing as a regular method for hardfaced plates manufacturing.

The deposit layer of SWIP® hardfaced plates comprises carbides of Fе3С; Мn3С; Сr7С3; W2С; WС; VС; ТiС; В4С, Мо2С etc. or carboborides, iron nitrides and alloying elements. We apply materials of both domestic and overseas origins.  Thus we can achieve the required chemical compound of deposited material which depends of operating environment of the target unit and the Customer’s requires.

The hardness of the deposited layer in accordance with Rockwell scale meets the terms of  service conditions and can achieve up to70 HRC, the carbide hardness is up to 1400 HRV. The layer properties can be altered in hardness and resistance in order to meet the Customer’s requirements.

The highest temperature level makes up to 600°C where we can apply the lining made of our regular hardfaced plates. If it is required the R&D department of Steel Work Ru,  in collaboration with designers  and researchers from Steel Work,  are able to develop the technology in order to protect the equipment operating at higher temperatures.

The core advantage of the units manufactured of hardfaced plates is their high durability. Steel Work, apply their own proprietary to manufacture SWIP® hardfaced plates and supply the guaranteed high quality and guaranteed chemical compound. The SWIP® hardfaced plate is a perfect material to manufacture and repair heavy-duty equipment subject to high wear.

One of the main benefits of hardfaced plates is a possibility of production almost of any shape of final products in compliance with the Customer’s drawings whereas we can handle them with rolling or bending processes. SWIP® hardfaced plates can be applied in very different units for heavy-duty equipment. Assembling, joining and fastening of units made of hardfaced plates to the surfaces subjected to be protected are executed with welding, bolt joints, studs etc.

The application of SWIP® hardfaced plates grants you the wide range of advantages if to compare with homogenous metallic materials therefore you receive a real set of properties unobtainable in others regular steels and alloys.

 You can evaluate the benefits of SWIP® hardfaced plate application when you require:

  • a possibility to protect equipment against any type of wear;
  • dramatic increase of  equipment durability due to  the surface resistance improvement;
  • weight halving of wear plate lining and as circumstance the improvement of the equipment productivity;
  • absence of long down-times;
  • no-need to purchase new and expensive equipment;
  • cutting of costs for special maintenance crews;
  • cutting of costs for  maintenance and repairs;
  • cutting of transaction costs for equipment servicing and consequently the product cost reduction;
  • simplicity of wear plate assembling.

Steel Work assure the  advanced resistance of SWIP® hardfaced plates due to full automation of the technological processes such as welding power value, arc voltage, electrode extension, stability of surfacing velocity,  depositing temperature mode control,   the electrode transverse  motion velocity.

Steel Work Ru take the responsibilities for the trouble-free operation of new and repaired equipment for the guarantee period.

Clad Plates Produced by Explosive Welding

Steel Work in collaboration with the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute developed and improved the joint project on cladded wear plates manufacturing performed by explosive welding.

Cladded wear plates are applied to produce reactors, columns, heat-exchange equipment and other reservoirs for companies of chemical, foodstuff, petrochemical power generating  and shipbuilding industries.

A cladded wear plate received by explosive welding is a wear plate, which substrate is made of unexpansive steel grades and performs strength-reliability and physical loadings whereas cladded layer is made of stainless steel grades, titanium, brass, zirconium or other expensive alloys performing protective functions against the impacts of aggressive environment, high temperature wear and others.

The method allows production of the plates with more than 3 layers of different steels and alloys meeting the Customer’s requirements.

You can evaluate the benefits of Explosive Welding and the cladded wear plate application at:

  • manufacturing of billets and equipment whereas  traditional manufacturing is inapplicable;
  • the necessity to keep the physical and mechanical properties unchangeable of steels and alloys after the welding process;
  • the necessity to  get the best joint efficiency between bonded materials;
  • the relatively short time to manufacture the orders;
  • comparatively lower price than the unit manufactured by hardfacing;
  • manufacturing of any type of consignment from one piece up to hundreds of tons per month.

The application of Explosive Welding in order to produce multilayer plates is a state of the art productive process, allowing to get billets and finished products of different sizes and chemical compounds of various steel grade and alloys.
